Q. As we kick off a New Year, please name the top three forecasted trends for 2021 Kitchen Design.
The Kitchen has become even more so the heart of the home, and due to the pandemic has turned into more of a multi- tasking room—cooking, eating, work, school, and play. Our clients want larger islands with lots of counter space, seating, and charging ports. Pantries have become essential for both food storage and to house small appliances, i.e. microwaves and coffee machines. Homeowners want them off the countertop and behind closed doors.
As for aesthetics, white cabinets are still timeless. Transitional design is trending, but a mix of warmth and texture are essential elements to this look. Islands are being requested in various shades of green, wood, or even a pop of color. A mix of materials is essential—faucets and sinks in black or nickel with matte or brushed finishes; white or light countertops with larger veins either in grays, black; or gold; and even darker countertops and a mix of white cabinets with a color or wood.
Q. What are the top three forecasted trends for 2021 Bath Design?
Larger format materials on floors, walls, showers, etc. that eliminate grout lines; larger freestanding showers and transitional floating vanities in wood, or the always trending white; lots of storage and heated floors.
Q. When a client approaches a renovation project, what are the first steps and why?
Function, aesthetics, and budget are the most important things to consider when approaching a renovation project. The client should meet with a kitchen or bath designer, remodeler or architect to get started with the planning. The experts will help them narrow down all of the details of what they want in their space and why and help guide them through the process.
Q. Other than Kitchen and Baths, what is the next most popular room to feature your cabinetry?
Bars and Built-ins.
Q. KBC lists a broad range of clientele from Home Builders to Home Owners. How do you tailor your services to the client?
Whether meeting with a home builder or a homeowner, discussion about their individual needs is imperative. After discussing function, aesthetics, and budget, we can formulate plans and designs for either a builder or homeowner. Typically builders will have architect plans for the home that we can design from. A homeowner will typically bring measurements and photos of their space along with any plans done for their remodel. We may also schedule a visit to their home to get a feel for the space and their needs.
