On December 13, several Design District Members and guests gathered at Niermann Weeks in Millersville to celebrate the holiday season. Attendees received a tour of the large workshop located behind the Niermann Weeks showroom and business offices where all their distinctive lighting, furniture, and accessories are designed, manufactured, and finished by hand by local artisans.
While the company offers a variety of furnishings, Niermann Weeks is best known for their light fixtures. “This is how the elegant, high-end pieces that will grace Manhattan penthouses and McLean mansions are made – not in impersonal overseas factories, but by humans, in an unassuming strip-mall-turned-office-park off Interstate 97 in Millersville, MD, near Annapolis,” wrote Emily Heil in an article posted in the Washington Post dated April 27, 2017. The article outlines the unique history of Niermann Weeks, which was founded in 1978 by Joe Niermann. Claire and Eleanor Niermann, his daughters, now oversee the company along with Justin Binnix, President. (For the complete article, follow this link.)
It’s worth noting that not all of Niermann Weeks’ furnishings and fixtures fall in the high-end design budget range. They offer a variety of styles and price points from a Parisian-style chandelier with fine crystal details and Venetian silver leaf finish to their collection offered through Visual Comfort. Niermann Weeks features more than 600 standard designs with 500 finishes, available through their location in Millersville and to-the-trade designer showrooms. Since they are made to order, many of their pieces can be customized.
Thank you to Niermann Weeks for hosting the year-end event on December 13. Also, thank you to Annapolis Interiors, Sew Beautiful, Kitchen Encounters, and Minuteman Press for helping to make this event a success by being drink sponsors.
